Andrea Sanz Vela is a composer, performer, sound artist, painter, writer and educator based in Madrid. Her practice crosses composition, improvisation, piano, viola, steel tongue drum, visual work, poetry, critical writing and pedagogy.
She has developed her work between Madrid and Berlin, collaborating in classical, experimental, jazz-rock, fusion, theatrical and interdisciplinary contexts. Her current research focuses on the recontextualization of melodies from distant cultural contexts and on the creation of habitable sonic spaces through listening, body, memory and artistic exchange.
Her work is informed by musicology, twentieth-century and contemporary music, visual practice, writing and forms of collective learning.
